Development of a Single-Phase, Transient, Subchannel Code, within the MOOSE Multi-Physics Computational Framework

Subchannel codes have been widely used for thermal-hydraulics analyses in nuclear reactors. This paper details the development of a novel subchannel code within Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) Multi-physics Object Oriented Simulation Environment (MOOSE). MOOSE is parallel computational framework targeted at solution systems coupled, nonlinear partial differential equations, that often arise simulation processes. As such, it includes codes/modules able to solve multiple linear and physics describe reactor, under normal operation conditions or accidents. thermal-hydraulics, fuel performance, neutronics codes, between others. A MOOSE-based new addition fleet INL-developed based on framework. In this work, we present derivation equations single-phase fluid, proceed with description algorithm these how was implemented MOOSE. We also can be coupled BISON performance code. Next, verify friction model turbulent mixing model. calibrate modeling parameters momentum enthalpy mixing, CT,β. validate using experimental results last demonstrate coupling capabilities simple example.
